Menkind
a play about three men on a stag do in space
The night was meant to end at Nandos, but now Barry, Alan and Martin are trapped together headed into deep space on what is turning into the worst stag do ever.
For about a year the three of us committed to meeting up in a hut in the woods (used otherwise for dance classes) to talk about our lives and experiences. The idea was we would eventually devise a show out of what we shared together. It ended up being a story about masculinity and maleness - told in both a silly and a sincere way.
The openness of this process was something I loved, a very different way to me of writing something and co-creating. I learned a lot about staging and sound from this show and Tim and Jen reminded me of the fun of making stuff together.
I am grateful for that time we had sharing our lives, our true feelings and thoughts. And for trying to sing a three part harmony on ‘Rocket Man’ and that scene where we all moved together in slow motion.
